Hi everyone, I recently installed CS 1.6 again because I wanted to play some classic servers with friends, but I keep having a strange issue. The game works normally at first, but every time the server changes the map, Counter Strike 1.6 freezes on the loading screen and I have to close it through Task Manager. I already tried lowering graphics settings and reinstalling the game, but the problem still happens. I’m starting to think that maybe my current version of CS 1.6 is outdated or has broken files. Has anyone dealt with something similar before?
Yes, I had almost the same problem a few months ago. In many cases, map loading freezes are caused by damaged game files or heavily modified builds of Counter Strike 1.6. Some old versions also have compatibility issues with modern Windows systems and newer servers. Reinstalling the same client often doesn’t help because the original installer may already be broken. I fixed the issue after installing a clean version from https://counter-strike-download.net/ . The game became much more stable, maps loaded correctly, and server switching stopped freezing completely. It also kept the original CS 1.6 atmosphere without unnecessary modifications.
Thanks a lot for the recommendation. I’ll try installing that version and hopefully the freezes will finally disappear.
