Hello there. Our family has outgrown the house but every time we look at moving within Bellevue the numbers are brutal – we’d be paying a lot more for something not much better, plus the kids would change schools. So we’re seriously considering staying put and reworking what we have instead. The problem is the house needs work almost everywhere rather than one clean addition, so it’s hard to scope. Has anyone here done the stay-and-remodel math on the Eastside and been happy with it afterwards?

A lot of people on the Eastside have run exactly this math and landed where you’re landing, mostly because the school and neighborhood factor doesn’t show up in a price comparison. The honest caveat is that whole-home work is disruptive in a way that moving isn’t, and you should decide upfront whether you’re living in it or renting somewhere for a stretch. Also get an early read on systems – insulation, windows, HVAC – since doing those alongside finishes is far cheaper than revisiting later. Bellevue Home Remodeling is the relevant page at New Day Construction, who do this scope regularly on Eastside homes.
